Manchester United bid £24m for Roma star Mehdi Benatia as they plan new swoop for Sporting Lisbon defender Marcos Rojo

Bid: United have offered £24m for Mehdi BenatiaFresh talks: United are also keen on Marcos Rojo

But the deal is complicated because of the tangled web of how much money Sporting will get out of his sale because 75 per cent of the Rojo’s ‘economic rights’ are owned by the controversial sports investment management company Doyen Sports.
Therefore, Lisbon want an inflated £24m for Rojo to make sure they benefit financially by selling.
The Portuguese club blocked United’s bid so the player has since handed in a transfer request and remains in dispute with the club while Sporting and Doyen are now involved in a legal battle.
Sporting have suggested to United that a deal can be done and Doyen bypassed because their arrangement with the club was struck under a previous administration.
