Cristiano Ronaldo accepts Darren Fletcher's Ice Bucket Challenge... and nominates Jennifer Lopez, Beyonce and Lil Wayne

Cristiano Ronaldo stripped down to his boxers to accept former Manchester United team-mate Darren Fletcher's Ice Bucket Challenge nomination - and then called on musicians Jennifer Lopez, Beyonce and Lil Wayne to join in.
The Real Madrid forward was soaked by his compatriot Fabio Coentrao while sat on a chair wearing just a pair of purple boxer shorts at the club's training ground at Valdebebas.
On Friday, Fletcher challenged Ronaldo to take part, and the Portugal captain posted proof he had braved the ice cold water on social media on Sunday.

Marcos Rojo will not be available for Manchester United debut against Sunderland because he doesn't have a work permit reveals Louis van Gaal

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal will try to kickstart his club’s season without new signings Marcos Rojo and Ander Herrera at Sunderland on Sunday.
United need a victory at the Stadium of Light to lift the gloom surrounding the club after the 2-1 home defeat by Swansea City on the opening day of the Barclays Premier League season.

Angel Di Maria is set to be left out of Real Madrid's squad to face city rivals Atletico on Friday, giving further encouragement to Manchester United who are weighing up a £50million bid for the Argentina World Cup star

Real contest their second trophy of the season as they play the second leg of the Spanish Super Cup against Atletico with the score 1-1 from the first game.
But there is likely to be no Di Maria after tensions between the player and the European champions heightened in the last 24 hours.

Real supporters have left the club in no doubt that they want Di Maria to stay at the club but president Florentino Perez wants him sold to help the club balance the books after their £95m spending spree this summer bringing in Toni Kroos and James Rodriguez.
The club were embarrassed by the reaction of the Bernabeu on Tuesday when Di Maria came on as a second half substitute and was given a huge ovation by supporters. On Thursday coach Carlo Ancelotti confirmed the player had turned down the offer of a new contract and asked for a move.
But Di Maria's new deal would only have seen him bring £4m next year and he wants parity with those who are in the second tier of Real's wage structure and earn £6m net a season.

Malky Mackay and Iain Moody investigated by FA over 'sexist, racist and homophobic' text messages during time at Cardiff

Disgraced: Malky Mackay is being investigated by The FA due to racist, sexist and homophobic text messages

Malky Mackay and Iain Moody have been reported to the FA and accused of being racist, sexist and homophobic in a shocking series of text messages dating back to their time together at Cardiff City.
Mackay, the former Cardiff manager, and Moody, the club’s former head of recruitment and now Crystal Palace’s director of football, appeared to be on the verge of being reunited at Selhurst Park on Wednesday, with Mackay thought to be replacing Tony Pulis.
But it is understood Mackay dropped out of the running after Palace learned of the evidence that has been passed to Wembley officials.

Arsenal transfer for Alex Song is perfect for both player and Premier League club... Arsene Wenger would be foolish to think he hasn't improved at Barcelona

Watching Barcelona train on Luis Suarez's first day back at work at the weekend several things were apparent.
One, that Suarez had lost none of his sharpness. Two, that Barcelona's intensive passing drills remain a sight to behold. And three, that Alex Song looks anything but out of place pinging the ball one touch between the flying tackles, to team-mates Xavi, Andres Iniesta and Lionel Messi.
Song has become a figure of fun since his switch to the Nou Camp last summer - last week he even managed to injure new goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen in training.

Real Madrid 1-1 Atletico Madrid: James Rodriguez scores first goal since £60million move but Raul Garcia equalises late on... and concern as Cristiano Ronaldo is substituted at half-time

The World Cup’s Golden Boot James Rodriguez scored his first goal for Real Madrid but it was not enough to give Carlo Ancelotti’s team the advantage in the Spanish Super Cup as Raul Garcia equalised from a corner with three minutes left.
It was more a game of two days than two halves with the 11pm local time kick-off meaning the match started on Tuesday and finished on Wednesday and it was on 'day two' that the goals came.
Madrid could have won it with their last attack when Mario Suarez blocked Dani Carvajal’s goal-bound shot with his hand but Atletico held on for the draw.

Match stats

Real Madrid: Casillas, Carvajal, Pepe, Ramos, Marcelo, Modric, Kroos, Alonso, Bale, Ronaldo (Rodriguez 45), Benzema.
Subs: Keylor, Isco, Di Maria, Varane, Arbeloa, Coentrao.
Yellow card: Alonso, Ramos.
Goal: Rodriguez 81
Atletico Madrid: Moya, Juanfran, Miranda, Godin, Siqueira, Mario, Gabi, Koke, Saul (Griezmann 56), Raul Garcia, Mandzukic.
Subs: Oblak, Gimenez, Ansaldi, Tiago, Cebolla Rodríguez, Raul Jimenez.
Yellow cards: Koke, Siqueira, Mario.
Goal: Garcia 88
The game, played so late because of Madrid’s suffocating August heat, was a scrappy affair with Atletico Madrid frustrating their big spending neighbours.
The match was only four minutes old when Koke went into the book as he went in late on Pepe and the Real Madrid defender exaggerated sufficiently to draw the card from the referee.
If the first caution was harsh the second on the quarter hour was completely justified as Siquiera went high over the top of the ball on Bale leaving him needing treatment on the sidelines.
Bale it was who had had Real Madrid’s first chance running on to Benzema’s pass but shooting wide of Miguel Angel Moya’s right-hand upright. Against a full-back on a booking this early the night was shaping up nicely for the Welshman. He swept past Felipe Luis’ replacement with another superb first touch as most of Real’s attacks flowed down the right hand-side.
As badly as Siquiera was doing defensively he was able to threaten on the break and when he skipped past Dani Carvajal he won a corner off of Sergio Ramos but Madrid are always dangerous on the break from defending corners and only a Juanfran challenged prevented Bale racing away to score.
Modric then won two corners in quick succession but saw both cleared by the stubborn Atletico Madrid defence. Xabi Alonso then became the first Real Madrid name to be taken for going through the back of Koke and cards continued to outnumber goal-scoring opportunities.
One such chance came just before the break when Ronaldo and Bale swapped wings and the former headed the latter’s cross well wide. Real coach Ancelotti got the biggest cheer of the night with a perfect piece of control from another stray pass that had dropped into his technical area but it was cagey stuff from the visitors and there was no way

Barcelona insist they paid £65m for Luis Suarez, NOT Liverpool's £75m release clause

Barcelona have dismissed Liverpool's claims that they paid £75m for Luis Suarez, insisting they only shelled out £65m for the striker.
Suarez, who is unavailable to play until late October due to a FIFA ban, was finally unveiled at the Nou Camp on Tuesday.
But while the Premier League side have insisted to Sportsmail that they received the full release clause for the Uruguayan, Barca have been boasting about their bargaining skills.

'Suarez's clause was £75m and in the end we paid £65m thanks to the skill of those negotiating,' executive vice-president Jordi Mestre said.
His new release clause has been set at a whopping £160m, and the 27-year-old admitted he has always had the Catalan giants in his heart.
'For years I've been dreaming of playing for Barca,' Suarez confessed. 'Every little boy knows, this is something that they want, and my family was here as well.
'To come here and watch Barca play and that one day I would be able to play here, I didn't think it was going to happen.

Manchester United confirm £16million move for Sporting Lisbon centre back Marcos Rojo - with Nani going the other way on loan

Manchester United have agreed a £16million fee with Sporting Lisbon for defender Marcos Rojo.
Rojo, who touched down in Manchester on Wednesday evening and said joining United ‘feels like a dream’, is set to sign a four-year contract after passing a medical and agreeing personal terms.
Louis van Gaal made it a priority to sign a left-footed defender and stepped up his pursuit of Rojo, 24, following Saturday’s shock home defeat to Swansea.

The deal was held up while United negotiated with Doyen Sports, the investment company that owned a percentage of Rojo’s economic rights, but on Tuesday night both clubs confirmed all parties have agreed terms.
He trained with Sporting on Tuesday but was not involved in the afternoon session as Sporting and United finalised the move.
‘It feels like a dream to be a United player,’ said the Argentina international. ‘Leaving Sporting wasn’t easy but I am very proud of having the chance of working with Van Gaal.’
Nani, who joined United from Sporting for £17m in 2007, has returned to his old club on loan for the season as part of the deal.
